About Provenace West

Our work centers around the study and preservation of traditional Western crafts, including saddle making, leather tooling, silverwork, rawhide braiding, and other maker traditions that shaped the American West.

Through documentation, sourcing, archival studies, commissioned objects, and curatorial guidance, Provenance West helps translate these traditions into meaningful spaces, collections, and contemporary cultural preservation.

What We Do

Archival Studies

Provenance West develops archival studies that examine the objects, materials, and design traditions that shaped the American West. From rowels and silverwork to frontier materials and saddlery forms, each study is presented as a documentation of craftsmanship, regional identity, and enduring utility.

Heritage Editions

Heritage Editions are limited works created in collaboration with skilled makers and traditional craftspeople. Produced in small numbers, each edition reflects the materials, methods, and visual language rooted in the craft traditions of the American West.

Cultural Advisory

Provenance West provides cultural advisory for designers, collectors, hospitality groups, and private clients seeking spaces and objects grounded in authentic Western craftsmanship. Our approach emphasizes material integrity, historical continuity, and thoughtful curation over imitation or mass-produced aesthetics.

Private Sourcing

Through ongoing research and relationships within the Western craft community, Provenance West assists in sourcing distinctive objects, materials, and handcrafted works that reflect the heritage and character of the American West.

Commissioned Objects

Provenance West collaborates with artisans and makers to develop commissioned objects informed by traditional Western craftsmanship. Each project is approached with an emphasis on authenticity, material quality, and preservation of enduring craft methods.

Why it Matters?

As mass manufacturing increasingly replaces true craftsmanship, Provenance West was created to help preserve and elevate the artisans, objects, and traditions that still carry the hand of the maker. We believe Western craftsmanship deserves to be viewed with the same level of respect given to fine art, design, and other celebrated cultural traditions. The right objects do more than decorate a space. They carry history, observation, skill, and permanence.

About the Founders

Provenance West was founded by Trevenia K. Brown and Michael Hampton to document, preserve, and elevate the craft traditions of the American West.

Through archival studies, commissioned works, and cultural research, the studio explores the enduring relationship between craftsmanship, material culture, and regional identity from saddlery and silverwork to rawhide braiding and frontier object traditions.

Rooted in a belief that traditional craftsmanship carries historical and cultural significance beyond decoration alone, Provenance West exists as an evolving archive dedicated to the makers, methods, and objects that continue to shape the visual language of the American West.
